Magento is an open source e-commerce web application that was launched on March 31, 2008. It was developed by Varien (now Magento Inc) with help from the programmers within the open source community but is owned solely by Magento Inc. Magento was built using the Zend Framework. It uses the entity-attribute-value (EAV) database model to store data.
Extensions may be developed for a variety of functional areas of Magento as well as for interfacing with 3rd party web applications.
Top 10 Extensions for magento :
1.One Step Checkout v4 (premium)
Magento’s One Step Checkout is bothersome to use as a customer and takes way to longer to fill out and load. Using One Step Checkout or another extension that presents everything on one page (and not in tabs) is an easy way to increase your conversion rate. Plus One Step Checkout offers a lot of additional options for store owners who want to collect more information or offer up-sells right on the checkout page.
2. Shop By Brands (Premium)
Shop by Brand extension for Magento enables you to create separate pages for brands presented in your store and link to them from product pages, thus making it easier for your customers to browse and shop by specific brands. Instead of brands names you can use any category relevant to your store – such as manufacturers, artists, authors, etc. The extension can be applied to any number of single-select attributes simultaneously, so your customers can shop by multiple attributes. So, for example, you can have Shop By Brands, Shop By Color, Shop By Collection and etc. at the same time.
3.Blog (Free)
The Blog extension gives you a noteworthy opportunity to communicate with your regular customers and casual visitors. With Blog you can create an interactive two-way communication platform to provide official information on your store news, upcoming products, promotions, and get customers’ feedback.
4. WebShopApps MatrixRate (Free)
The best and easiest way to customize your shipping rates in Magento. This extension allows you to make a CSV which charges your customers based on destination, shipping method and the weight, price or quantity of an item. If you need to override rates from FedEx, USPS or UPS I’d recommend checking out their other extension – Shipping Override. WebShopApps is a fantastic company and really provides top level service and support.
